Comfy synth.

One of the most interesting developments on Bandcamp was the advent of the “Comfy Synth” genre. It spawned from Dungeon Synth, but, like the name suggests, has a much more comfy feel, often with music written in major keys and with artists with names like “Grandma’s Cottage” and “Tiny Mouse”. Shire Oak has been writing some wonderful music for a while now and I happen to stumble upon his music. I was instantly enticed by the imagery from “The Cardinal” and what lay inside was one of the best comfy synth albums I had heard in a long while! It perfectly encapsulates what the genre is about, all while maintaining a delightful wintry motif. Titles like “First Frost” and “A Flame in the Cold” let you know exactly what you’re in for. Shire Oak truly has a talent. There are some wonderful melodies here and the whole thing is such a VIBE. It made its way into my regular rotation and I couldn’t be more pleased to have pressed it to vinyl.

Personal Favorite Tracks: The Cardinal, Skating on the Canal, & A Memory.
